2-27-13 DON'T GIVE UP!!

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Thursday, February 28, 2013,
I am writing this at 3 a.m.
on 2-28-13.

It is dated 2-27-13
in order to memorialize that date
for the message which was received
on that date (about 14 hours ago),
as follows:

DON'T GIVE UP

Wow!!

That's all I really want to say about that at this time.

On a lighter note,

I have finally gotten to sit down
for about one hour
at the Roland A-88
(full-size piano keyboard)
controller,
which is currently connected
to a Korg Krome synthesizer.

Korg is famous,
to me,
for their piano sounds (presets)
for man...

2-25-13 UPDATE

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Tuesday, February 26, 2013,

I really have nothing new to say
at this time.

Am leaving for northern California tomorrow
for a quick trip up and back.

Yes, business, as usual.

Have been holding off on doing any musical work
pending my receipt of the MOTU multiple-MIDI box
which I spoke of in the last post.

For those who have no reason to know such things,
MOTU is an acronym for
The Mark of The Unicorn.

This is a very innovative company
which has been making
top-of-the line electronic gear
for musicians
for some years now.

When ...

2-23-13 CHECKING IN

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Saturday, February 23, 2013,
All has been relatively quiet here
during past several days.

Had much catch-up work to do.

Have continued with that
for much of past several weeks.

Much running to and fro.

Have had little time to play,
but have managed,
at all odd hours of the night
and early a.m.,
to put together four hardware synthesizers
with about ten "soft" synthesizers.

Now we are starting to get somewhere.

As you might guess,
wiring everything together
and making all software and hardware
talk with one another flawlessly
ta...

2-12-13 NEW SONGS POSTED

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Wednesday, February 13, 2013,
I thought for several days
how I would like to have
some meditative choral music.

I was very tired
and wanted it to be quiet
and relatively non-complex.

Finally at 7 p.m. on 2-11-13
I wrote the first song,
and then later that night at about 4:30 a.m.
on what was now 2-12-13
I wrote the second one.

So, the two songs are titled
021113b
and
021213a.

They are meant to be very unpretentious,
but while remaining within the confines
of the historical genre.

Am musing over where to go next,
as I write this....

2-7-13 NEW SONG POSTED

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Friday, February 8, 2013,
I got up at about 4:30 a.m.

By 5:30 a.m.
the first light of day was coming out.

Because it was very foggy outside
it was impossible to tell
exactly what direction
any given light was coming from.

Nice and quiet and foggy.

A perfect Ventura morning.

It was what I always loved about this city
and several others
going up the coast from here.

All of that "horrible" fog.

Good setting
to write a quiet piece
for choir,
titled
020713a.

Note how the choral song
goes with the organ song
just prior to it.

And how ...

2-5-13 POSTED NEW SONG

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Wednesday, February 6, 2013,

At about 7 p.m. this evening
I went "organ crazy"
and decided that it was time
to write something
for solo organ.

The title is
(I'll bet you guessed it, huh?)
020513a.

I feel that I must warn
that organ solo
is not for everybody.

Almost everyone I have ever known
hates it.

My own dad
told me that it is only for
funerals
and such like.

I strongly disagreed with him then
and now,
as regards this most singular of matters.

It all depends on whether the person playing
or writing
is alive or dead.

Unfortunatel...

2-4-13 JUST CHECKING IN, AGAIN

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Tuesday, February 5, 2013,

I just got in from northern California.

It is about 15 minutes past 11 p.m.

Spent the past three days
doing rigorous "conditioning" exercises
in the form of seven mile
walks on the beach,
once each day,
faster each time.

I use a pair of tubular metal walking sticks,
which act like cross-country ski poles,
so that one can get upper torso
in on the action.

Is especially useful
when climbing up hills or embankments,
or crossing boulder fields.

Takes a lot of pressure off of the knees.

Of course that do...

1-31-13 NEW SONG POSTED

Posted by Vincente E. Woodward on Friday, February 1, 2013,
I have been cleaning like a maniac
during the past four days.

Moving lots of boxes of books
and equipment.

All very heavy.

Good workout,
but I have had enough for now.

Am leaving for northern California tomorrow.

Hope to get to sit up
at one of my favorite quiet spots
on Saturday and Sunday afternoons,
with any luck.

Visitors are, of course, welcome.

In the meantime,
I decided to work a little bit more
on choral compositions.

So at 4 a.m. on 1-30-13
I wrote the song entitled 013013a,
and at 2 a.m. this...
